Polish Society on the Crossroad

(summary)

The value system of the totalitarian era and authoritarian socialism differs considerably from the current one. A weak institutional fabric was characteristic of the former social system. Two breakthroughs, experienced by our society, i.e. the events of 1981 and 1989, had a significant influence. One could observe the so-called "shrinking" of socialistic values. Among the society we can still observe the limited green light for the existence of the market economy. The introduction of the free market system brought about some significant reshuffles in the social structure. Particularly significant psychosocial consequences are interwoven with the on-going social diversification. Currently, we may witness distressing phenomena, such as: legitimacy crisis or institutional pathologies. Future changes in the social structure in our country may take place according to one of two scenarios.
