Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko at the Constitutional Tribunal. At the invitation of Mr. Bohdan Zdziennicki, the President of the Constitutional Tribunal, the TIGER Director presents his remarks on the matter of social market economy to which refers the Constitution of Poland. Article 20 of the Constitution claims: "Social market economy, based on free economic activity, private property and solidarity, dialog and cooperation of social partners is the foundation of the economic system of the Republic of Poland." On the occasion of his comments during one of the Thursdays at the Economists, the gatherings organized by the Polish Economic Association (on June 4th, 2009), Professor Kolodko has said: "...very fast after "Solidarity" had taken over the authority the ideas and practice of building the social market economy have been quit. And it's happened so despite all the rhetoric and despite later article in the Constitution of the Republic of Poland. This is a dead declaration. In practice over last dozen years there hasn't been a single case of the Constitutional Court verdict about breaking the principal law as a result of not following the imperative of social market economy, yet it's quite easy to point to both, the symptoms and the proofs of a such."

The US Mint releases the series of six new quarters within the "2009 District of Columbia and U.S. Territories Quarters Program". One of them, the Pacific island of Guam, Professor Kolodko visited three years ago, in March 2006, presenting a seminar on globalization at the University of Guam (and, just by the chance, running there one more marathom...). One of the photographs taken while at the island has been found at the TIGER website by designer from the US Mint, Mr. David Westwood, which - with due respect for the copy rights - has asked the author of the picture for permission to use this photo for his design of the Guam coin reverse proposition. And Mr. Westwood has won the competition!
