Another foreign language issue of   " Wędrujący świat". , the recent book by prof. Grzegorz W. Kołodko , has reached the market. This time the renowned Budapest-based publisher, Akadémiai Kiadó , has published the work in Hungarian (396 pages) under the title "Megatrendek" (ISBN 978 963 05 8712 9)

First foreign language edition of Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko www.kolodko.net book on "World on the Move" www.wedrujacyswiat.pl has just been published. "Mir v dvizhenyi" - this is the Russian title of TIGER's Director bestseller which has been released by the MAGISTR Publishing House in Moscow. The book (ISBN 978_5_9776_0102_3 & ISBN 978_83_7469_712_5), which counts 576 pages, has been translated by Mr. Yuriy Tchaynikov. Under way are the editions of the work in other languages.

VICTORIA! Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko has finished in Sankt Petersburg the XXth International White Nights Marathon in 4 hours 43 minutes and 8 seconds. This is already 31st marathon the TIGER Director run over last eight years.

Unbelievable! In quite original way - and at the same time making contribution to non-inflationary money supply - Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko has contributed to the ...American monetary policy! The US Mint releases the series of six new quarters within the "2009 District of Columbia and U.S. Territories Quarters Program". The coins have at the reverse the symbols of District Columbia and five overseas territories. One of them, the Pacific island of Guam, Professor Kolodko visited three years ago, in March 2006, presenting a seminar on globalization at the University of Guam (and, just by the chance, running there one more marathom...). One of the photographs taken while at the island has been found at the TIGER website by designer from the US Mint, Mr. David Westwood, which - with due respect for the copy rights - has asked the author of the picture for permission to use this photo for his design of the Guam coin reverse proposition. And Mr. Westwood has won the competition!

So, the symbol of Guam visible on the coin reverse - the latte stone upon which the Micronesian houses of the Chamorro people had been constructed - has been drawn.

Next (number 116) TIGER Working Papers has been published. Paper on "Market Reform and State Paternalism in Hungary: a Path-dependent Approach" is István Benczes from Corvinus University of Budapest, Hungary. We encourage to read this interesting paper!

The quarterly "Ekonomista" publishes (no. 3/2009, pp. 353-371) the paper by Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko on "Wielka transformacja 1989-2029. Uwarunkowania, przebieg, przyszłość" ("Grand Transformation 1989-2029. Conditions and Constraints, Path for the Future"). The paper includes Summary in English and Russian.

July - December 2009
Proszynski & Ska, the publisher of bestseller "Wedrujacy swiat" ("World on the Move"), has released special edition of Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko's book. This is a limited edition, for the bibliophilic collectors, each volume with a different number and with the original author's signature. The book can be purchased in the Proszynski & Ska bookstore a Garazowa Street in Warsaw and in selected internet bookshops: Klub Ksiazki; Merlin; EMPiK; Albertus.

Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko again pays a longer visit to Trento, "the city of painted houses", at the Universita degli Studi di Trento, with which TIGER cooperates for several years. During his stay, beside continuation of research on the feedback between globalization and regional development, he presents also a lecture and seminar for the faculty of Department of Economics and the international group of the Ph.D. students from the School on Local Development.

September 18-19, 2009
The United Nations World Institute for Development Economics Research, WIDER, organizes international conference on "Reflections on Transition: Twenty Years after the Fall of the Berlin Wall" in Helsinki. The organizing committee is chaired by Professor Gerald Roland from Berkeley University. Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko www.kolodko.net, which stays in the working touch with WIDER already from 1988, has been invited to present a paper on "The Great Transformation 1989-2029".

October 4-14, 2009
At the invitation of the Debrecen University's Faculty of Economics and Business Administration Wojciech Przychodzen visits Hungary. Aside of the consultations on economic growth during transition he conducts classes on "International Capital Markets and Investments".

At the invitation of Professor Marek Krawczyk, Rector of the Medical University of Warsaw, Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko visits this distinguished university. On the occasion of celebration of 200-years of medical studies in Poland Professor Kolodko presents lecture on "Understanding the World". The opening ceremony, with the participation of TIGER Director, takes place on Thursday, December 3rd, at 6:00 p.m.

Grzegorz W. Kołodko, renowned Polish politician and economist, will be the Academy's guest during the first convention of the 6th annual AYD programme on the 12th of December 2009. (AYD is an annual program executed by the European Academy of Diplomacy, more information can be found at www.diplomats.pl). Professor Kołodko, who has previously been a guest lecturer of the Academy in May, will present his listeners with a speech titled the "Understanding the World".
